POSITION SUMMARY
To provide superior quality, competitive value, and outstanding service by working interdependently with the Dentist and Hygienist to provide dental health care to patients of all ages.
The Dental Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care supportive duties to assist the dental staff in the examination and treatment of patients.
GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduate from a Florida Board of Dentistry-approved or Graduate from a Florida CODA-accredited dental assisting program or a minimum of three years’ experience in Pediatric, General and Oral Dentistry in lei of education.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Florida Radiation Safety coursework and X-Ray Certification to meet Florida Radiography Requirements
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
• Ability to work well in a team environment, remains motivated, is self-directed, and demonstrates initiative
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Completes patient chart within established standards.
Verifies chart for completeness.
Enters all applicable data into the electronic medical record system (EMR)/electronic Dental record system
• Seats patient courteously, records vitals, triages as necessary and prepares patient for provider
• Maintains daily patient flow to ensure patients will be seen as soon as possible using all available resources.
Enters patient information and treatment into the electronic medical record system (EMR)/electronic Dental record system
• Takes necessary diagnostic radiographs as indicated by treatment plan or provider
• Assists with additional dental services, including but not limited to pediatric care, oral surgery, and general restorative procedures
• Ensures all in-office preformed testing is recorded in appropriate logbooks
• Disposes of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards
• Prepares patient, sterilize, or disinfect instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials for patient visit
• Develop favorable relationships with all patients.
Instruct patients and their family members on general oral health care and/or information related to post-treatment care as appropriate
• Maintains necessary stock of supplies utilized by dental clinic
• Maintains Eye Wash equipment log on a weekly basis
• Disposes of biohazard waste according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
• Weekly maintenance on dental units
• Maintains supplies, equipment, and sterilization of hygiene instruments; maintains sterilization protocols and procedures and uses OSHA compliant techniques in sterilization and operatory preparation
• Assists with discharging patients at the end of the visit
• Establish favorable working relationships with all staff members associated with clinic operations including front office personnel, dental hygienists, dentists, and related staff
• Ensures appropriate scheduling of patients and follow up
• Completes additional projects as delegated by providers
• Takes ownership and represents Brevard Health Alliance’s mission and organizational goals established by the executive committee.
